The end of The Roots as we know them?

Beloved hip-hop band, The Roots, have been confirmed as Jimmy Fallon’s house band for when he takes over Conan O’Brien’s late-night talk show next year. This is really cool, and I look forward to seeing such a talented group get this level of exposure, but wait… isn’t this kind of a bad idea for The Roots? One would assume this sort of time commitment (a nightly TV show taped in New York) would prevent them from the prolific touring schedule that has made them so renowned. Are they just ready to settle down? Seems like an odd time to do so, given their recent surge in popularity after a few sturdy studio albums.
