This year’s 39th Forum programme at the Berlin International Film Festival offers “the eclecticism and confidence of the next generation of independent filmmakers.” The Forum offers work from Korea, the US, Romania, and the Netherlands, many of them directorial debuts, with most of them being shown as world premieres. Three US independent productions have been announced as receiving their world premieres at the Forum 2009. Andrew Bujalski’s “Beeswax,” Matthew Hysell’s “Marin Blue,” and Bradley Rust Gray’s “The Exploding Girl.” Other films in the program include So Yong Kim’s “Treeless Mountain,” Lee Yoon-Ki’s “My Dear Enemy,’ Baek Seung-bin’s “Members of the Funeral,” Lee Suk-Gyung’s “The Day After,” Eugenie Jansen’s “Calimucho,” Sonja Wyss’s “Winterstilte” and Radu Jude’s “The Happiest Girl in the World.” The complete programme of the Forum is soon to be announced.
