IFC Films will take the “Roadshow Edition” of Steven Soderbergh’s “Che” on the road once again with 9 additional markets opening next Friday, January 16th. This follows considerable success of the film’s screenings in New York and Los Angeles, where in three weeks and from single theater engagements with only two shows a day, the film has grossed $244,857. Additionally, beginning on January 21st, “Che” will also be available in homes nationwide via IFC In Theaters on-demand service.
Notable statistics from its three weeks “on the road” include “Che” having the highest week gross of 2008 at Landmark’s Nuart Theater in Los Angeles with a take of $26,130. While at the IFC Center in NY, the film’s first week gross of $37,451 set a new record for the IFC Center as its top-grossing week ever. In its second week there, the film sold out 12 of its 14 shows, and its week gross rose to $46,000.
“A lot of people told me I was crazy to push for a Roadshow presentation of ‘Che,’ because American moviegoers aren’t adventurous enough,” said Steven Soderbergh in a statement. “Fortunately, the results in New York and Los Angeles prove otherwise. IFC Films has backed the Roadshow idea from the beginning and I am totally psyched that they are taking this version out on the road, where it belongs.”
This newly announced chapter in “Che”‘s “Roadshow” will unspool in 9 additional markets on January 16th. Like in New York and Los Angeles, the film will be shown in its entirety, commercial and trailer free with an intermission and limited edition program book at every screening. The markets include: Boston (Landmark Kendall), Chicago (Landmark Century Center), Dallas (Landmark Magnolia), Houston (City Cinemas Angelika), Minneapolis (Landmark Uptown), Philadelphia (Landmark Ritz 5), San Francisco (Landmark Embarcadero), Seattle (Landmark Varsity), and Washington DC (Landmark E Street)
