Tomorrow is Oscar Thursday, meaning we’ll be up at 6:30 a.m. here in Park City for the announcement of the Academy Award nominations. My trusty Oscar prognosticator amigos Peter and Keaton offer their predictions today.
In the best picture slot, there are three obvious locks, “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,” “Slumdog Millionaire,” and “Milk”. The safe bets are on “The Dark Knight” and “Frost/Nixon” for the other two spots, but I am thinking “Wall-E” could surprise folks in that 5th slot.
Other “surprises” I’d like to see tomorrow: Melissa Leo for best actress, Richard Jenkins for best actor, and a low nomination count for “Revolutionary Road.”
I won’t be surprised to see “Gran Torino” make a stronger than expected showing.
