Among the recent film highlights for me at Sundance ’09 is RJ Cutler’s “The September Issue,” a peek inside the world of Vogue Magazine’s Anna Wintour. Exceptionally photographed by Bob Richman, the doc was much more than I anticipated. It not only offers a window into an unseen world, but delivers an insightful look at interpersonal dynamics. (And it really made me miss New York City). And the portrait that emerges of Wintour deputy Grace Coddington is just terrific. Her signature line, “You can’t stay behind, you have to go charging ahead,” is a great mantra that underscores the movie quite well.
The Holiday Village screening was so popular yesterday morning that virtually no one with a hard ticket got in, only express passholders. An afternoon showing had to be arranged and ticketholders were apparently shuttled to the Redstone theater at Kimball Junction. CAA is selling the film and an insider tells me that they have multiple offers to consider. They expect to close a deal on the movie next week.
