First Look: Von Trier's "Antichrist"

Buzz about the Lars Von Trier’s latest, “Antichrist,” intensified today with the release of a still image from the new movie. The framegrab from the film, expected to debut this year at the Cannes Film Festival, captures a scene featuring film leads Willem Dafoe and Charlotte Gainsbourg.

Described by Cinematical as the story of “a couple who retreat to a cabin in the woods after losing a child, and run into some ‘terrifying occurrences’,” the apparent horror film stars Dafoe and Gainsbourg.

Written by Von Trier and Anders Thomas Jensen, the film is produced by Meta Louise Foldager for Zentropa Entertainments23 (Denmark) and coproduced by Zentropa International Koeln (Germany), Slot Machine (France), Memfis Film (Sweden), and Lucky Red (Italy) in cooperation with The Danish Film Institute, Nordic Film & TV Fund, Film i Vaest, Swedish Film Institute, Filmstiftung NRW, ARTE, ZDF, Canal+, DFFF and CNC.

Zentropa recently annouced a slew of release dates for the new film. It will hit Von Trier’s native Denmark on May 29th, followed by Sweden on June 5th, with France, Spain, Italy and Belgium expected to release the film late May/early June.
