I was totally pleased to see this appreciation of ABC’s short-lived Dana Carvey Show, in Sunday’s New York Times. As the headline of Dave Itzkoff’s piece states, the show was miles ahead of its time and that’s why it was abruptly cancelled. For a couple months back in 1996, I was one of the few tuning in every week, and loved every absurd episode. While Carvey’s career went into suspension following the show’s demise, it did help launch the careers of Steve Carrell, Stephen Colbert, Charlie Kaufman, and Louis CK.
