U.S. rights to Boaz Yakin’s “Death in Love” have been picked up by Screen Media Films. The film, starring Josh Lucas, Lukas Hass and Jacqueline Bisset and written and directed by Yakin (“Remember the Titans”) will have a theatrical release in July, according to the company’s president, Robert Baruc. Baruc and David Fannon, Executive-Vice President of Screen Media Ventures, negotiated on behalf of Screen Media and Cinetic Media on behalf of Yakin.
“Death in Love” is a psychosexual tale set at the crossroads where family, history and sexuality collide. Two opposite brothers (Josh Lucas and Lukas Haas) are trying to climb out of the shadows of their Holocaust survivor mother’s (Jacqueline Bisset) dark past – and the eerie love affair she conducted with a Nazi doctor to survive in the camps. Decades after their mother’s experience, which left her blurring the lines between pleasure and pain, the sons’ lives still reverberate with the damage. As duplicity, moral compromise and the ghosts of the past haunt their vivid sexual and emotional relationships, the family careens towards a shattering catharsis. The film also stars Adam Brody and was produced by Yakin and Joseph Zolfo.
“Boaz Yakin’s shocking film features brilliant performances and is incredibly well-done. We are looking forward to bringing “Death in Love” to audiences and to driving the lively conversations and debates that are sure to ensue,” commented Baruc in a statement about the acquisition. ” Added Yakin, “I’m extremely excited about Screen Media’s enthusiasm for ‘Death in Love’ and appreciate their commitment to distributing such a provocative film.”
