Annie Sullivan Teaches Helen Keller to Speak

Helen Keller was deaf, dumb and blind after an illness at 19 months. Her teacher Annie Sullivan figured out how to teach her to communicate by sense of touch. Patty Duke and Anne Bancroft won Oscars in The Miracle Worker in the roles of Keller and Sullivan.

I played Helen Keller in The Miracle Worker for 2 weeks!!! Everyone thought it was weird that the Drama Dept would cast a brown Indian girl to play Helen Keller, but they didnt care… lol

She was such an inspiration. I cannot imagine what life was like being Deaf (let alone being Deaf and Blind) in the 19th century.
