Hamptons’ “Uncertainty” to Take On U.S. Release

Hamptons' "Uncertainty" to Take On U.S. Release

U.S. rights to David Siegel & Scott McGehee’s New York-set suspense thriller “Uncertainty,” starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt (“500 Days of Summer”) and Lynn Collins (“X-Men Origins”) have been picked up by IFC Films. “Uncertainty,” which is having its U.S. debut at the Hamptons International Film Festival this weekend, is the follow up to writer/director duo’s “Bee Season” and “The Deep End.”

IFC Films’ VP of Acquisitions Arianna Bocco negotiated the deal with Cinetic Mediaj, and the filmmakers were represented by Chris Donnelly at William Morris Entertainment. IFC Films is releasing “Uncertainty” via its IFC in Theaters platform which brings movies to on demand viewers at home the same day as they premiere in theaters. Beginning November 11th the film will be available nationwide on-demand for three months. In addition, the film will have a theatrical engagement in New York at the IFC Center starting November 13th.

In the film, Bobby Thompson and Kate Montero (Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Lynn Collins) are thrust into two alternate realities on the same steamy summer day in New York City. With the flip of a coin, the couple are sent in opposite directions – a delicate drama set in Brooklyn examines familial love, self-discovery, loss and the ordinary choices we make everyday, while Manhattan offers a vastly different tale of intrigue, suspense and murder on the streets of Chinatown.

“‘Uncertainty’ is a smart and suspenseful thriller featuring terrific performances by rising stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Lynn Collins,” commented IFC Entertainment president Jonathan Sehring in a statement. “It’s a thrill to work with David & Scott, two of the most talented and innovative directors in independent film today. We think this is the perfect film for our theatrical and VOD platforms.”

“Uncertainty” had its world premiere last month at the Toronto International Film Festival.

UNCERTAINTY did in fact World Premiere at TIFF 08, and the Hamptons International Film Festival presented its US premiere last week with its 2 directors (David Siegel and Scott McGehee) in attendance. I encourage audiences to see it when it releases next month as it is a great film.

I agree. I saw this at TIFF in ’08 and gave it a good review. Its one of the string of great indie performances from Levitt, who is on the verge of breaking out into leading man stardom.

Sorry, but this is not from last month’s Toronto, and it is most certainly not a “Hamptons film.” It didn’t even play in the Hamptons a year ago, after its world premiere in Toronto 2008. I reviewed Uncertainty, positively, for Screen International at that time and have wondered why it has taken 13 months to find a U.S. distributor. What’s important is that it found one. Good ol’ IFC. This movie is highly recommended, for what it’s worth.
