Thompson on Hollywood

While the Kick-Ass footage at Comic-Con played well enough for Lionsgate to pick up the movie for release, I’ve heard the Matthew Vaughn movie is only sporadically brilliant. (I will check it out for myself; I missed an early Arclight screening.) After pirate trailers were posted on the web, the distrib has released the real thing (on the jump).

Based on the Mark Millar comic, Kick-Ass is a super-hero spoof starring Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Aaron Johnson (the precocious Brit who plays young Lennon in Nowhere Boy), and Nic Cage and Chloe Moretz as an unstoppable father-daughter act. Here’s my Comic-Con report.

Maybe I’m not giving exhibitors and TV stations enough credit, but will they use advertisements that read “Kick-Ass?”
