Daniel Monzon’s Spanish thriller “Cell 211” (Celda 211) has been picked up by IFC Films for the U.S. The film premiered earlier this year at the Venice and Toronto film festivals and is having its New York premieres Friday night as the opening night film of the Film Society of Lincoln Center’s Spanish Cinema Now series. IFC’s Lizzie Nastro negotiated the deal with Nicolas Brigaud Robert, CEO of Films Distribution. IFC Films will release “Cell 211” in 2010 via its Festival Direct movies-on-demand platform which give national exposure to critically-acclaimed independent films screened at marquee film festivals each year.
