Emily Blunt Talks Young Victoria, Golden Globes

Thompson on Hollywood

Brit actress Emily Blunt walks the red carpet at the Beverly Hilton Sunday afternoon as a best actress drama nominee for The Young Victoria, which is holding well ($6.3 million so far in North America), and should get a boost from her Globes appearance. She has been there before: she’s now an old hand.

At Saturday’s BAFTA tea at the Beverly Hills Hotel, Blunt talked to my flip cam about the whole Golden Globe experience, her surprise win (for the 2006 BBC mini-series Gideon’s Daughter), her role in The Young Victoria and her career choices, juggling indie films such as Sunshine Cleaning, co-starring Amy Adams, with studio fare The Devil Wears Prada, starring Meryl Streep, and the upcoming The Wolf Man (Benicio del Toro) and The Adjustment Bureau (Matt Damon).

I got the time-line figured out. According to Apparition’s Bob Berney, producer Graham King shopped one version of the movie to distributors for some time, which was longer and more political than the final edit that was released in the UK and North America, which put more stress on the romance. Emily Blunt is right: the same version was released in UK and America. Another one was seen by many distribs before that.

Thanks for asking her about ‘The Girl’ and ‘Shoot the Messenger’! I hope they happen!

Are you sure there’s a different version of ‘The Young Victoria’, dear?
