"Outrage"-ous GLAAD Media Award Nominees

The GLAAD Media Award nominations were announced this morning, with the three obvious choices – “Precious,” “A Single Man” and “Taking Woodstock” – all in the best film in a wide release category (though “A Single Man”‘s release has been far from wide), joining stretching-for-it nominees “Everybody’s Fine” and “I Love You, Man” (At least its a jump up from 3 years ago, when “Stardust,” “Across The Universe” and “The Jane Austen Book Club” was the best they could do).

But, hey, why isn’t Kirby Dick’s politician-outing “Outrage” in the documentary category? Dick’s sadly underseen film went to great lengths to expose some incredible hypocrisy that is one of the backbones of homophobia the United States, and to encourage dialogue about it. Glad to see “Derek” and “The Topp Twins” make the cut (I haven’t seen the other three), but “Outrage” most definitely deserves recognition for what it set out to do.

Movieline has more on the snub.
