Beastie Boy Adam Yauch’s Oscilloscope Laboratories announced a North American rights deal for “Bananas” today.
“Although not his best work, the team and I are looking forward to working closely with master filmmaker Woody Allen on the release of ‘Bananas’, Yauch said in a statement. “I’ve been a huge fan of his work for as long as I can remember. Regardless of the quality of the film, I’m looking at this as a personal opportunity to spend quality time with the ‘Wood-Man” and Soon Yee.”
“I’ve been a fan of the Beastie Boys since Hello Nasty came out in 2001 and Adam Yauch is my favorite member of the group,” Allen offered in his statement, from Oscilloscope, “Adam has offered to cook dinner for me and Soon Yee a week from Tuesday. I just hope he’s able to use that wok as well as he claims he can.”
“Although Oscilloscope was not my first choice for a distributor,” weighed in Frederick Gertten, director of the controversial documentary with the same name, in a statement today (pictured, below), “They seem so passionate about my film, we figured we’d give it a shot.”
