Sarasota 2010 | Opening Night

“It’s the day of the show, y’all”– Libby Mae Brown, Waiting For Guffman

The Sarasota Film Festival opens tonight and eight months of hard work (and blog negligence) come to a head at last; Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini’s The Extra Man is ready to roll (with Kevin Kline on hand with the Directors), we have nine days of films that follow, including 168 features and shorts, hundreds of filmmakers and producers, the launch of our Investors Lab (which we hope will help deliver financing and investment opportunities to the leading lights of independent film production), we’re hosting a Staged Reading of Oren Moverman’s adaptation of William S Burroughs’ Queer, Directed by and starring Steve Buscemi, with Stanley Tucci, Ben Foster, John Ventimiglia and Lisa Jacobs acting in the reading as well, we’re hosting our Filmmakers Tribute to John Landis (which, I have to say, I’m sooo excited to be hosting), rock legend Patti Smith is playing an intimate show for 200 people at our Tribute After Party with perhaps some special guests (and signing copies of her amazing new memoir Just Kids), and tons and tons of other fun (a filmmaker booze cruise, karaoke battles, and movies movies movies!). Off to make it happen. It is going to be an exhausting and excellent time… Wish you were here…
