It’s a very gay day for movie trailers hitting the internet, with this summer’s two most homo-friendly offerings both giving us the 2 minute treatment this morning.
First off, the obvious: “Sex and the City 2,” or what seems more like half “Sex and the Middle East” (or “National Lampoon’s U.A.E. Cougar Vacation”… either way I had me some unpleasureable Dubai flashbacks) and half super campy gayfest with all those over the top outfits, speedo clad beach boys, a gay wedding (between Stanford and Anthony!!?), Miley, Penelope (why?!?), AND multiple shots of that Liza Minnelli cameo. I don’t think Carrie Bradshaw’s voiceovers have ever annoyed me as much as they do here (and that fucking inscription on the watch!), nor have I ever had less confidence in a movie that I will 100% see on opening night anyway:
And second, the trailer for what is sure to be the drastically more sophisticated option, “The Kids Are All Right,” which I have already rambled on about numerous times after seeing it at Sundance (short story: I loved it). It’s impossible for 2 minutes to capture the greatness of a film, but this does a decent job at capturing the charming tone of “Kids,” and thankfully does not at all shy away from the gayness. That said, I’m irked by a plot giveaway or two… So if you want to go into it the way I went into it, don’t watch.
