"Special Relationship" Hits HBO May 29th; HBO Poised To Dominate Emmys

HBO has starting airing promos for the “The Special Relationship” – the Bill Clinton/Tony Blair via Peter Morgan film that I’d thought for some time was actually heading for theatrical release (which says something about how consistently classy HBO’s projects are). “Relationship” will premiere on HBO on May 29th (three weeks after it hits the UK), just in time for 2010 Emmy eligibility.

With Michael Sheen as Tony, Dennis Quaid as Bill, Hope Davis as Hillary (!), and Helen McCrory as Cherie Blair, this could be huge come Emmy time (and in the ratings). And between this, “You Don’t Know Jack,” “Temple Grandin,” and “The Pacific,” the TV Movie/Miniseries categories are going to be extremely HBO-centric. Let’s hope the always terrific Michael Sheen manages to be a part of that party after getting stuck in the shadow of both Helen Mirren and Frank Langella in recent Oscar races.
