Film Independent today made a number of programming announcements for the 2010 Los Angeles Film Festival, which will take place June 17-27.
The festival’s Artists in Residence, who will introduce a film that has inspired their work, have been named: LA Weekly‘s Pulitzer winning restaurant critic Jonathan Gold has selected “Udon” by Katsuyuki Motohiro, music legend Quincy Jones will present “The Color Purple” by Steven Spielberg, and actor/comedian Paul Reubens offers up “You Can’t Take It With You” by Frank Capra, in addition to being on hand for the 25th anniversary screening of his “Pee Wee’s Big Adventure.”
In addition, LAFF will be introducing a new program to help filmmakers make sense of the ever-changing marketing and distribution landscape entitled “Seize the Power: A Marketing and (DIY)striation Symposium.” FIND’s Director of Education Maria Bozzi explains: “In collaboration with filmmaker Jon Reiss, we’ve developed a two-day boot-camp for our Festival filmmakers, as well as a public event, so artists can take charge and better understand how to harness new distribution options and their social networking community.” “Seize the Power” will draw from key players in the film industry, including Scilla Andreen (Indieflix), Caitlin Boyle (Film Sprout), Ted Hope (This Is That), Peter Broderick (Paradigm Consulting), Zak Forsman (Sabi Pictures), Nolan Gallagher (Gravitas Ventures), David Geertz (Biracy), Mynette Louie (Producer, “Children of Invention”), Orly Ravid (The Film Collaborative), and Lance Weiler (The Workbook Project).
In other programming, LAFF also announced screenings of two Tribeca films, “Freakonomics” and “The Two Escobars;” four special conversations with Ben Affleck, Sylvester Stallone, John Lithgow, and Roger Corman; three poolside chats with Davis Guggenheim (“Waiting for Superman”), Hollywood tweeters to talk about “The Power of Twitter,” and artists and filmmakers to discuss “Capturing LA;” three discussions focusing on technical aspects of filmmaking; and a series of coffee talks and filmmaker lunch talks.
