U.S. rights to “Wild Target” have been picked up by Freestyle Releasing, with a planned October 8th release, the company said Monday.
Starring Bill Nighy, Emily Blunt, Rupert Grint, Martin Freeman and Rupert Everett, “Wild Target” is the story of Victor Maynard (Bill Nighy), a middle-aged, solitary assassin, who prides himself on his own peerless reputation for lethal efficiency. His professional routine is interrupted when he finds himself drawn to one of his intended victims, Rose (Emily Blunt) who sold a forged Rembrandt to one of his clients (Rupert Everett). He spares her life, unexpectedly acquiring a young apprentice in the process, Tony (Rupert Grint). Believing Victor to be a private detective, his two new companions tag along, while he attempts to thwart the murderous attentions of his unhappy client.
Freestyle partnered with Joanne Storkan of Honest Engine Films for the acquisition of the film, directed by Jonathan Lynn (“My Cousin Vinny”). The seven figure deal was negotiated between Mark Borde and Sloss Law partner Paul Brennan. Honest Engine was repped by Kimberly Thigpen of Pfeiffer Thigpen FitzGibbon and Ziontz LLP.
“We couldn’t be happier with ‘Wild Target’ as our first full acquisition and are thrilled to be associated with Bill Nighy, Emily Blunt, Rupert Grint and the rest of the stellar cast and production team,” commented Mark Borde and Susan Jackson, co-presidents of Freestyle Releasing in a statement. “This is the beginning of Freestyle’s new strategic initiative to diversify into a full- fledged acquisition and distribution company that will better position itself in the marketplace.”
