In the constant push for site traffic, James Cameron provides a reliable news headline, what with the BP “morons” thing, and the lingering impact of the ultimate blockbuster, the 3D Avatar. The tiniest indication of directional change for Cameron’s next project is enough to fuel endless speculation.

At the All Things Digital Conference, Cameron said that he’ll advance 3-D technology on his next film, which will either be Avatar II–“or some other big film that uses that same technology.” As Cinema Blend points out, everyone already knew this. But that didn’t stop others from hypothesizing about what that “other” film might be. Could it be Battle Angel? At a recent Caltech conference, Cameron told TOH that although he still is “interested” in the story of Battle Angel, he’s working on Avatar II for now. It’s safe to assume that Avatar II will be his next film.

-As MGM’s financial problems stalled The Hobbit, setting free Guillermo del Toro to direct something else, now James Bond is releasing Daniel Craig and Sam Mendes to find other work. Craig is in talks to play muckraking womanizer Mikael Blomkvist in The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (perfect casting), while the theater director is planning a musical stage adaptation of Charlie in the Chocolate Factory and a film version of Ian McEwan’s On Chesil Beach. Because Mendes is still committed to directing Bond, he’s taken himself out of the running for the The Wizard of Oz reboot.

-Speaking of Bond, Christopher Nolan calls Inception his 007 film, admitting to taking visual cues from the Bond films. Count us in for a metaphysical Bond movie. Empire talks to Nolan.

-The NYT’s Deal Book reports that Creative Artists is looking to expand into the wonderful world of sports with help from some private equity firms. This could move CAA into the programming and production side of the business, while maintaining their dominance as Hollywood’s most powerful talent agency. CAA might finance the project themselves.

-Tyler Perry confirms that Mariah Carrey has dropped out of his current production, For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf. Apparently her doctor told her not to work, five days before shooting began. Perry mentions that it could be due to a pregnancy. He doesn’t seem too happy, “I’m there on vacation, celebrating life, thanking God and just relaxing when I get a message that I have to come home, that Mariah has dropped out of the film!”

To DavidC:
Real Megan Fox fans use the shift key when spelling their name.

Re: Nolan taking Bond cues.

Oddly, the trailer for Inception reminds me of the Matrix more than anything else.

mmm confusing me with someone else?? i’ve never even spoken the name of Megan Fox, or mentioned her in print until now-i’ve been for Johansson all the way. She sure aint no troll, and thankfully her Emmy nomination confirms her major talent

Your Megan Fox troll has become a Scarlett Johansson troll? At least his taste’s improved.

Anne, here’s another free tip for Sony: shoot all 3 stories back-to-back

Craig is the actor for this role – i predicted this ages ago on Anne’s blog re the casting for the US version – have a look at his performance in Copenhagen, and you will see how well he does European! My choice for Salander then, and now, is Scarlett Johansson – lose the blond hair, and it’s all there – their chemistry would be dynamite, and the age difference is just what the script requires – Anne, please tell Sony to get on with it!

Daniel Craig as Blomkvist??? I’m shaken–but not stirred.
