On the casting front:
– Post-Oscar, post-James and post-MTV kiss, Sandra Bullock may be committed to Most Wanted down the line, reports the LAT, but given that the script is still in development, CAA agent Kevin Huvane sent out a statement clarifying that Most Wanted is not the next film Bullock will do. She is considering several projects, but Huvane assures: “The next project that will follow her Oscar will be chosen carefully and with a great deal of thought.”
– Mads Mikkelson will play Rochefort in Paul W. S. Anderson’s The Three Musketeers, due in spring 2011. The NYT profiles the Danish actor, who at 44 is riding a steady trajectory toward international recognition. Will he be the next Stellan Skarsgaard? He has attracted a specific fan base due to his sculptured face and what Anna Mouglalis, his co-star in SPC’s upcoming Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky, calls his “grace.” For eight years Mikkelson was a professional dancer (with a stint at the Martha Graham school). From Bond villain in Casino Royale to Susanne Bier’s can’t-miss After The Wedding, and the must-watch Danish WWII drama Flame & Citron (both out on DVD), his range is remarkable. He was the one actor to survive intact the execrable Clash of the Titans, even if the Medusa did turn his burly general into stone.
— X-Men: First Class casting rumors continue. This time Rosamund Pike is tagged as telepath leader and Cyclops love interest Emma Frost. Pike, who was a touchstone of loveliness as Jane Bennett in boyfriend Joe Wright’s Pride and Prejudice and the ditzy blonde in Lone Scherfig’s An Education, held her own against Keira Knightley and Carey Mulligan, respectively.
My Idiot Brother, a comedy starring Paul Rudd and slated to shoot in New York next month, just added Elizabeth Banks, Zooey Deschanel and Emily Mortimer as three sisters who put up their idealist brother (Rudd) as he deals with his havoc-wreaking, overbearing mother. Banks is the career-driven sister, Deschanel is the flaky bisexual who dates Rashida Jones, and Mortimer the perfectionist mom/wife whose marriage is crumbling.
