North American rights to the Cannes Classics documentary, “Cameraman: The Life and Work of Jack Cardiff” have been picked up by Strand Releasing from High Point Films – the theatrical sales arm of Carey Fitzgerald’s High Point Media Group. Described by director Craig McCall as “a conversation” with the legendary and Academy Award-winning cinematographer who died last year. The Culver City, CA distributor plans a 2011 release.
“Whether you’re true cineaste or a casual observer, you can’t help but be inspired by Mr McCalls’ beautifully crafted documentary,” commented Strand’s Jon Gerrans in a statement. “This is wonderful filmmaking that will be watched for many generations to come.” “Cameraman” will next be screened at the London UK Film Focus at the end of this month before it heads to the Czech Republic for the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival where it will shown as part of KVIFF’s tribute to Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger whom Cardiff collaborated with on some of his most well known work.” [Brian Brooks]
