Sundance Institute Directors Lab Names Eccles Fellow

Sydney Freeland’s “Drunktown’s Finest” is currently going through the Sundance Institute June Directors Lab at the Sundance Resort as the 2010 George S. and Dolores Doré Eccles Foundation Directors Lab Fellow. The script is a coming of age story set on an Indian reservation that follows the lives of three Native Americans — a rebellious father-to-be, a devout Christian, and a promiscuous transsexual. Freeland, born and raised in New Mexico, is a 2009 Sundance Institute Native Lab fellow alum and a recipient of a Fulbright in 2004, for which she did a field study of indigenous peoples in Ecuador. The George S. and Dolores Doré Eccles Foundation provides significant funding for the Sundance Institute’s film and theater programs, and is intent on fostering the creativity of Utah and its people.
