Sexy Vampires: From Rolling Stone's True Blood Cover to Burton's Dark Shadows

Got to give Rolling Stone points for one of the most memorable covers in some time. (Here’s the True Blood story that goes with it.) Clearly, sex, nudity and vampires sell.

Bloodsuckers continue to thrive, from HBO’s hit series True Blood to the Twilight saga and Matt Reeves’ upcoming English-language remake Let Me In, a surprise R-rated entry on the fall fest circuit. There’s yet another Len Wiseman Underworld sequel on the way for 2012, in 3-D, starring Kate Beckinsale. Then there’s Tim Burton’s remake of Dark Shadows, starring Johnny Depp in the role of Barnabas Collins that Jonathan Frid made famous in the TV series (1966-1971). I used to rush home from school every day to catch this vampire soap. But who will play blonde Angelique?

Appropriately, Warner Bros. and producers Depp and Graham King have hired Seth Grahame-Smith (who’s prepping the movie of his book Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter with Timur Bekmambetov) to rework John August’s script for a planned January start.

Nudity has been in many different forms of art. Some of the most famous paintings in the world feature women or men in various stages of undress. Then you have the porn industry of course, which is nothing but nudity.

This cover is a true expression of a genre that has fascinated, horrified and intrigued people for over a century. This is simply the evolution of this fascination. It is grittier, it is sexier, and believe it or not – it’s not the worse thing out there.

This is an amazingly sexy cover that goes along with an intelligent television show that can manage to have a strong message about our society, and be hot at the same time.

Very hot and sexy!I like it alot!who would not

This is so gross! You Guys had class once..where did it go. Promoting some ugly Porn thats all you do….

the girl is about to get tag teamed

This is such a trivial topic, I wouldn’t bother posting, except that SOMEBODY needs to defend the cover.

I love it. Sexy as hell.

And I don’t even like True Blood…

@DavidC: Ingrid Pitt was gorgeous and sexy in Hammer’s THE VAMPIRE LOVERS. Delphine Seyrig was glamorous and sexy in DAUGHTERS OF DARKNESS. Catherine Deneuve is beautiful in THE HUNGER. These three nonentities on the cover of Rolling Stone are just repulsive. (No, I’m not a fan of Anna Paquin and never have been.)

RIDICULOUS cover! Has Rolling Stone lost their minds? Get back to where you once belonged.

Ever seen any of the sexy & bloody Hammer vampire movies? Or “Daughters of Darkness? Or “The Hunger”? Alan Ball’s right about the built in sexiness of vampire stories. Sexuality was closer to the surface in “Dracula” than in any other Victorian novel.

That is the most disgusting cover this magazine has ever had…and they have had some fairly disgusting ones.
I will be glad when my subscription is up.

Old Fart

That’s an ugly and disgusting cover. This obsession with vampires and zombies has gotten out of hand. What does it say about our culture when bloodsuckers, flesh-eaters, parasites and leeches have become so attractive to such a large part of the population, esp. young people?
