Robin Leach of all people broke the news, revealing that Lewis will star in the film that will shoot in Las Vegas and Los Angeles starting on December 1st. The film is written by Daniel Noah who will also be directing. If the name isn’t familiar to you, don’t worry. He’s written a couple shorts and features, but nothing you would immediately recognize. “Max Rose” will mark his sophomore directing effort following 2001’s “Twelve.”
So what will it be about? According to Lewis, the film will follow “an old man who is driven by love and optimism and by his love for his young daughter” while IMDB elaborates that the picture will focus on a widower who revisits key moments in his life. Speaking of IMDB, Liv Tyler has long been linked to the role of the daughter but it’s not yet clear if she is still attached.
As expected, France is freaking out about the movie with a set of journalists apparently being flown in to visit the set during production. While we’ll wait to see how this one turns out, this story should at least serve as a reminder that if you haven’t seen “The King Of Comedy” with Robert De Niro and Jerry Lewis you should cue up that Martin Scorsese film now. And if you don’t know the history of Lewis’ failed and unreleased holocaust drama “The Day The Clown Cried” this thorough history is a must-read.
