Watch: Kevin James Makes His 'Dr. Doolittle' With 'The Zookeeper'

Kevin James. Talking animals. A fat guy yelling seemingly non-stop. It looks like our cinematic prayers have been answered.

The teaser trailer has arrived for the latest Kevin James masterpiece and if you always wondered what Paul Blart might do if he was in a zoo, well here’s your answer! The film follows Griffin (James) a kind caretaker at the zoo who decides to try find a more lucrative job so he can finally get a girlfriend. But the animals don’t want him to go and in order to get him to stay reveal their biggest secret: they can talk! Screaming and running into things ensues.

Okay, we might not care this but clearly a lot of people seemed to like it, as Sony pushed the film from its originally slotted release this fall to next summer based on overwhelmingly strong test scores. Who knew? The film will hit theaters on July 8, 2011. You can read the synopsis and watch the trailer after the jump (or in HD at Apple):

In Zookeeper, the animals at the Franklin Park Zoo love their kindhearted caretaker, Griffin Keyes (Kevin James). Finding himself more comfortable with a lion than a lady, Griffin decides the only way to get a girl in his life is to leave the zoo and find a more glamorous job. The animals, in a panic, decide to break their time-honored code of silence and reveal their biggest secret: they can talk! To keep Griffin from leaving, they decide to teach him the rules of courtship – animal style. The film also stars Rosario Dawson and Leslie Bibb and features the voices of Cher, Nick Nolte, Adam Sandler, and Sylvester Stallone.

+2 points to you Gabe for mentioning The Muse.

Gabe Toro

Good for him. Bad for us.

Isn’t this sort of like the terrible sounding movie Albert Brooks dreams up in “The Muse”?

What a couple of days for awful awful trailers.

The movies Kevin James seems destined to make are broadly appealing, broadly written, greatest common denominator films. With his mug and physique, there’s probably not much more he can expect. It ends up making him an easy target for casually launched, deprecating opinions. He’s getting the last laugh, though. His career, while not Oscar material perhaps, it still provides him with a substantial income, a beautiful wife and family and a house in the hills and more than just a little money in the bank. He’s like the guy that brought the best looking girl to the reunion, much to everyone’s surprise. And good for him.
