Watch: New Trailer For 'The Green Hornet' Gets It Right

We — along with pretty much everyone else — have been Debbie Downers on Michel Gondry‘s forthcoming “The Green Hornet,” and with good reason. The early footage and trailers failed to impress and the late stage announcement of 3D didn’t exactly help matters, but hot on the heels of some positive test screenings and with the release not that far of, a new trailer has arrived for the film and you know what? It actually looks like this could be decent.

Now, don’t get us wrong. It’s not going to be next “The Dark Knight” and it hardly looks like it’s going to break any new ground, but as a dumb popcorn comic flick? Yeah, it finally looks like it could be a fun time at the theater. The new spot doesn’t try to hide the fact that it’s a very goofy riff on the comic book genre, with most of the laughs coming from Britt Reid (Seth Rogen) getting acclimated to his new role as crime fighter, The Green Hornet. That said, Christoph Waltz, utterly compelling in “Inglourious Basterds” seems kind of wasted here as a standard baddie and Cameron Diaz continues to barely factor in the film. However, there is a bit more here to suggest that Gondry’s imprint will be felt (ie. that rotating camera bit) and the 3D look is very obviously self-aware. So yeah, we’re feeling a bit better about this one overall.

“The Green Hornet” hits on January 14, 2011. Check out the trailer after the jump.

What’s with the lame accusations? The only thing wrong with the this post are the whining douchey fanboy commenters. This site is not here to champion your pious comic book crusade. As a reader, and someone who knows what sex is like, fuck off. This is a site for people who watch, and enjoy – movies.

And while we’re on about it, how much more lukewarm can the writer possibly be?

The Playlist

I thought you guys ditched the idiot commenters back on the old site?

Yes, time for the upwardly mobile Playlist to come clean about its hidden conflict of interest. This movie is shite, pure and simple. They didn’t get anything right. OBVIOUSLY. Is the studio paying you?
They RUINED a great character

Kevin @ Playlist

Sigh, no guys, we’re not being paid off or whatever. This writer thought this trailer was ok. In fact, I gave said “it actually looks like this could be decent” and then I added that Christoph Waltz and Cameron Diaz look like non-entities. Hardly the over the moon praise that a studio might expect if they were paying us off or giving us free shit. Which they aren’t.

Hayden Maxwell

This is a bad movie. Don’t get your hopes up, you’ll only get disappointed. Cameron Diaz and Christoph Waltz are the frontrunners for 2012’s razzies

nope. still looks terrible.

Sounds like a certain blog got some sneak preview tix and exclusive interviews. Conflicts of interests that are not revealed to readers, of course.
