Diane Kruger Replaces Eva Green In 'Farewell, My Queen'

Man, can Eva Green get a break these days? Gemma Arterton has taken over the role previously slotted for the actress in Michael Mann‘s gestating “Capa” and now, Diane Kruger has stepped in for the actress in Benoit Jacquot‘s adaptation of Chantal Thomas‘ novel, “Farewell, My Queen.”

Kruger joins Lea Seydoux and Gerard Depardieu and will play Marie Antoinette with Seydoux as a reader to her royal majesty during the final days of the French Revolution. No word yet on who Depardieu will play, but most likely a notable figure in the royal family tree.

Don’t be too concerned if you’ve never heard of Jacquot. He’s not really that well known on this side of the ocean, but he has notched nominations from the Cannes and Venice film festivals in past years for films “The School Of Flesh,” “The Untouchable,” “Keep It Quiet” and “Seventh Heaven.” While our hopes for seeing both Green and Seydoux running around in period costumes have been dashed, Kruger is certainly an able thesp and fills in our much shallower requirements for the film (she’s a looker, okay, we said it).

Filming begins next spring.

“Don’t be too concerned if you’ve never heard of Jacquot.”

Well, if this is not stupid populist ignorance at its – for The Playlist very typical – worst.

I’m glad they pick Diane. She deserves her chance to shine.

Are you joking? Eva Green is absolutely stunning.
I adore Diane and Eva equally, but in matters of beauty, Eva has what many women in hollywood don’t have: a genuine, natural and incomparable beauty, she’s impossibly gorgeous.
As for Diane, she’s also very beautiful, but I think you’re despising her talent as an actress.
I’m sad to see Eva replaced, but I’m sure Diane is up to the task.

Diane Kruger may be a very attractive women, but Eva Green isn’t exactly ugly either. They are both fine actresses, in my humble opinion.
