Brendan Fraser & Kristin Scott Thomas Join Neil LaBute's 'Seconds Of Pleasure'

Colin Firth & Ed Harris Offered Roles

What the hell happened to Neil LaBute? Once considered a bold new emerging cinematic voice after delivering two caustic, blistering and hilarious filmsIn The Company Of Men” and “Your Friends & Neighbors” the director unwisely started taking on projects not based on his own writing. This led to the films like “Nurse Betty” and “Posession” and though he rebounded with the underrated “The Shape Of Things,” matters got considerably worse with a trifecta of awful including “The Wicker Man” (man gets attacked by bees), “Lakeview Terrace” (man gets attacked by Samuel L. Jackson) and “Death At A Funeral” (man gets attacked by a midget). Which brings us to Brendan Fraser, who has made a career out of second-rate blockbusters, nauseating family films with the odd drama that no one ever watches thrown in for good measure.

Well, the two couldn’t be a better pairing for some sort of career renaissance as they will team for the drama “Seconds Of Pleasure.” Details on the project are scarce but we presume it’s based on the LaBute short story of the same name. At the very least Fraser and LaBute are surrounding themselves with some decent talent.

Kristin Scott Thomas has also joined the film and intriguingly, offers are out to Colin Firth and Ed Harris for parts as well. No details on the roles or even a logline at this point, but the film is gearing up for a March shoot in the UK. Presumably no CGI, talking animals or mystical monsters are involved. Seriously though, if LaBute can get that kind of talent on board we’ll be suckers enough to give this one a shot, but we’re leaving our expectations at home.

I couldn’t disagree more. I am really looking forward to seeing my favorite actor Brendan Fraser in Seconds of Pleasure. Gods and Monsters, School Ties and Monkeybone would have been just two of the brilliant and creative films I’ve enjoyed him in. He is an incredible and versatile actor, and I appreciate the great diversity of his work and ability to transform from character to character. I only wish I had a chance to catch him in Elling and hope to see him on stage one day.

Maybe he’s doing the movies just for money because his plays are amazing!
