Then there is Contracorriente from Peru. After its great success at San Sebastian, Sundance, and LALIFF, this great film is receiving good solid distribution from Wolfe Releasing and The Film Collaborative and good solid international representation from Shoreline. This is one of the most beautiful love stories I’ve ever seen, and it’s gay too. What a beautiful film…still in theaters…catch it while you can, you won’t regret it.
An unusual ghost story set on the Peruvian seaside; a married fisherman struggles to reconcile his devotion to his male lover within his town’s rigid traditions
Shoreline picked it up for international sales at Ventana Sur 2009. Wolfe Releasing picked it up for U.S. and will work with The Film Collaborative to market it. It’s also sold to Ecuador’s Escalon Films, Puerto Rico’s Wiesner Distribution, Spain’s Karma Films, United Kingdom’s Axiom Films International, Netherlands’ Cinemien, Brazil’s Alberto Bitelli Intl. Films, Colombia’s Dynamo Capital, Benelux’s Homescreen.
