New Posters For Pedro Almodóvar's 'The Skin That I Inhabit' Might As Well Be From 'Saw VIII'

With Cannes just around the corner, Pedro Almodóvar‘s “The Skin That I Inhabit” has been highly tipped to take a competition slot and we can hardly wait to see what the helmer has in store as the film looks unlike anything he’s done before. The film is a revenge picture based on crime novelist Thierry Jonque‘s 2005 book, “Tarantula,” about a plastic surgeon’s revenge on the man who raped his daughter. But really, that’s just scratching the surface. You can bet this film, which has a loathsome protagonist who, while seeking justice for his daughter, keeps his wife imprisoned and subjects her to humiliating sexual acts with strangers, won’t be another Euro delight many have come to expect from Almodóvar.

The film stars Antonio Banderas, Elena Anaya, Marisa Paredes, Jan Cornet, Roberto Alamo, Blanca Suárez, Eduard Fernández, José Luis Gómez, Bárbara Lennie, Susi Sánchez, Fernando Cayo and Teresa Manresa. Longtime collaborators such as composer Alberto Iglesias, DoP Jose Luis Alcaine and editor José Salcedo are once again in the mix. And if you’re wondering just how different this might be — check out the latest artwork below. You’d be forgiven if you thought they were for some Lionsgate or Dimension horror films that were coming out.

Sony Pictures Classics has picked up the film and will release it later this year. [3xtras via Film Experience]

Sounds awesome, however, I don’t know anybody who’ll want to see this with me.
