Poster Watch: One Day's Hathaway and Sturgess in the Clinch

Clearly director Lone Scherfig’s follow-up to An Education is worth anticipating, so I am eager to check out her upcoming Brit romance One Day. Focus Features has released a nostalgic new poster that conjures up references to vintage photos of Bob Dylan and that iconic VJ Day photograph (see below). Anything else? UPDATE: I’ve added the famous Robert Doisneau kiss photo and Weegee’s “Lovers at the Palace Theatre,” c. 1940.

Anne Hathaway stirred some local resistance to the idea of her playing a working class Northern Brit–but even diehard Bridget Jones Diary fans came around to American Renee Zellweger playing their zaftig heroine. Hathaway co-stars with Jim Sturgess (here’s my The Way Back flip cam interview) in this Focus Features release (July 8) adapted by David Nicholls from his bestseller about a London couple who meet as students in the 80s and stay in touch for 20 years. Scherfig told The Guardian:

“It’s definitely a warmer interpretation of Emma because Emma is more provincial and shy and sometimes overcompensating. Anne is a very warm actress. She has the warmth of Elizabeth Taylor or Judy Garland … I love Emma as she is in the book, obviously, but I also love Anne Hathaway’s version of her.”

I read the book.Actually this poster captures OD perfectly.Focus Features did a great job.I think there is a reason why OD poster is like this.I love this poster.It’s perfect.If I didn’t read the book,I think still I will love this poster.It’s lovely and beautiful.

I heard OD is a really good film.I think and hope many people will love this film for a long time,not only buzzed during awards season.It’s a great story.By the way,I’m sorry,I couldn’t post the comment to the Jim Sturgess interview on last December.Thanks so much for this amazing interview,Anne.Every Jim fan says it’s a best interview for a long time.
