As an Australian, I know this story quite well. There have been several Australian documentaries made on the subject, and the Prime Minister made a formal apology this year to the adults previously affected. It’s wonderful to see this film being made, as it will hopefully open up the story to international attention.

Often these British kids were just children of widows/widowers or parents down on their luck, who either turned to the authorities for temporary respite or had the authorities’ attention turned on them by well meaning neighbours, relatives or church members.

Along with this and the stolen generations of Aboriginal children who suffered the same fate just for being Aboriginal, Australia has a lot of past sins to atone for. Sunny countries cast dark shadows.
