Watch: Miss Dior Cherie Ad Starring Natalie Portman, Directed By Sofia Coppola

Following her very successful work for Miss Dior Chérie a couple of years ago, that spawned an ad that became a YouTube sensation, it was reported late last year that Sofia Coppola was hired back for a new campaign for the fragrance, this time starring Natalie Portman.

Well, the ad has now landed at Tatler (via NataliePortman; view it below). The spot uses the iconic song “Je T’aime Moi Non Plus” by Serge Gainsbourg and Jane Birkin and features a lot of hazily-lit Portman looking fabulous in a Parisian apartment and, among other things, taking a bath while wearing sunglasses.

It’s not as whimsical or memorable as Coppola’s previous spot for Chanel and outside of Portman, seems like a million other fragrance ads, but is still worth a quick look. Next in acclaimed directors taking on ads for fashion houses? Darren Aronofsky has an ad for Yves Saint Laurent’s Perfume “La Nuit de L’Homme” starring Vincent Cassel hitting Europe next month.

What does "dior cherie" means?

You didn’t notice! The guy is Alden Ehrenreich (“Tetro”).

As commercials go, it was run of the mill. Of course it let us have a peek at Natalie Portman’s beautiful back side, front side, side while reclining…so win.

..see what I mean? There is so much to say and so much meaning hidden within the emotions of the characters. It’s subtle, melancholy and beautiful.

right. sometimes when you look to hard for shit that isn’t there you just look like a puffed up idiot. the movie was pretty, but also beyond shallow with an ending unforgivably belabored and beneath her skill set.

It’s only lazy for people who couldn’t see beyond the surface.

‘somewhere’ was a lazy mess. particularly compared to her previous efforts.

well she’s lived in paris for years, before somewhere.

‘Somewhere’ was one of the best films of last year.

J. Cohen

Hear, hear!

i’m beyond sick of directors doing perfume ads. and sofia coppola shouldn’t feel good about frolicking around paris after the mess that ‘somewhere’ was.
