'Sex Drive' Team To Direct Adam Sandler & Andy Samberg In 'I Hate You Dad'

We can see the trailer already: From The Guys Who Brought You “Sex Drive,” “She’s Out Of My League” and “Hot Tub Time Machine.” Gah. We just got sick for a moment.

Variety reports that Sean Anders and John Morris, responsible for penning all the above underachieving pics (with Anders directing the first one) as well as the upcoming “Mr. Popper’s Penguins,” are in talks to tag team the director’s chair for “I Hate You Dad.” We guess Dennis Dugan wasn’t available. Adam Sandler teams with “Saturday Night Live” star Andy Samberg in the film, with the older actor playing the younger’s father, who moves in with his son shortly before his wedding and finds himself falling out with the bride-to-be. Uh oh!

Our only hope in the film lies in the script which was given a re-write by David Wain and Ken Marino; here’s hoping Anders and Morris don’t mess with it. Lensing will probably gear up once “SNL” is done for the season, with a prime June 22, 2012 release date already set.

I don’t understand the disrespect for David Wain, he is actually talented . I truly enjoyed his work on Role Models, The Ten, Childrens’ Hospital, and Wet Hot American Summer.

Also, thank God no Dennis Dugan. Sandler needs to lay off him for a while, or for the rest of his career.

So the writers and directors are usually known for R-rated fare. Any chance this will be R-rated as well?

Just glad Sandler’s getting some new blood in there. Not that it’ll change much. The Marino/Wain script is probably a red herring to fool people with good taste (see also: the Payne/Taylor script for Chuck & Larry).

Sex Drive and She’s Out Of My League were actually funny. Watch them again. They’re both much more creative and energetic than something like Hall Pass.

And I still don’t understand why David Wain gets so much love. Is it because The Ten was sooooooo hilarious?

RUMSPRINGA! “Sex Drive” is an underrated flick and the best of the 3 so since that’s the only one Anders directed I’m going to give these guys the benefit of the doubt on this one. Although given Samberg, Sandler, and the premise, there’s a lot of doubt.
