Anthony Mackie Offered Co-starring Role With Brad Pitt For "World War Z"

Looks like the Hurt Locker is paying off royally for Anthony Mackie.

While he lost the Bourne lead to his former co-star Jeremy Renner, he’s just been offered to star opposite Brad Pitt in World War Z and is being eyed for a role in Warner Brother‘s Gangster Squad alongside Sean Penn, Ryan Gosling and Josh Brolin.

With Marc Foster set to direct, Word War Z is based on the post-apocalyptic horror novel by Max Brooks. The story is set 10 years after a global zombie epidemic and is an oral history told from various perspectives. It’s a collection of individual accounts in the form of first-person anecdotes. In the book, Brooks plays the role of an agent of the United Nations Postwar Commission who publishes a report a decade after the Zombie War. The interviews chart a decade-long war against zombies from the view point of many different people of various nationalities. The personal accounts also describe the changing religious, geo-political, and environmental aftermath of the Zombie War.

Mackie, who is currently filming Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, is set next to star alongside Hugh Jackman in DreamWorks Real Steel as well as suspense thriller Man on a Ledge with Sam Worthington. Afterwards, he’ll then be appearing with Channing Tatum in Ten Year.

Gangster Squad, directed by Ruben Fleischer, is a period crime film based on a seven-part Los Angeles Times article written by Paul Lieberman that details how, during 1940s corruption and chaos, the LAPD created a special unit called the “Gangster Squad” to prevent the East Coast mafia from infecting the city.

Mackie’s star is certainly rising and with his commitment to star in indie fare flicks like he did with Night Catches Us, Bolden! and Desert Flower…things can only get better for him.

Good stuff. He has solid acting chops and is getting better projects to show it.

Can I just say that people assume that any black actor is going to be the BBF as soon as they get a part opposite a white actor? I’ve read the book and I’m pretty sure he’s playing one of the interviewees. This actually doesn’t say anything but “co-starring role with Brad Pitt.” I don’t see anything about what kind of role it is. Assumptions Assumptions

He’ll get to where we want him to be.

I 1st saw Mackie in ‘She Hate Me’ while not a great picture a good performance. When I see a black person give a good performance I pay particular attenntion to what they are doing. I’ve noticed him give good performances in small roles like his role in ‘Million Dollar Baby’ and when ‘Night Catches Us’ came to the 2010 Maryland Film Festival ( I had to see it and again another good performance.

I have to agree with Cynthia “Be patient Lynn he’s almost there!” These are high profile roles and he will soon be the leading man unto himself. He’s making some great choices so far.

Having read the book I’d suggest that Mackie is one of the Interviewees as opposed to anyone’s BBF.
If he’s in the section I suspect then it’s one of the bigger set pieces if not the meatiest role.

Sorry but I’m with Lynn. After reading this, I immediately thought, “oh he’s playing the BBF again.” :/ It’s great that the brother is getting work but he’s in danger of being typecast (if not already). Maybe this will lead to bigger and better things but Will and Denzel are exceptions to the rule. Reality.

Be patient Lynn he’s almost there! lol

Wish a movie would me made about when Richard Wright and Paul Robeson and Count Basie wrote something about Joe Louis in the early 40’s.
Then maybe Mackie can play in it with a bunch of other folks of today. Bet they would love the clothes of he era. I got the idea from seeing him in that picture in that hat. Good look.

Okay so he is playing a Black man BBF along side a white lead actor again?? okay so when are we going to progress here people?

Mackie is on a role!!!!!!!!!!
