Brit Filmmaker Richard Ayoade’s “Submarine” Gets A Trailer For The USA Crowd

Brit Filmmaker Richard Ayoade's "Submarine" Gets A Trailer For The USA Crowd

I first profiled Richard Ayoade in June 2009, as a member of a small group of UK Stars of Tomorrow – the next generation of young British actors and filmmakers set to wow global audiences, based on their “impressive” recent past performances.

Ayoade, born an only child to a Nigerian father and Norwegian mother, is known more for his comedic talents, though he does have some behind-the-camera experience – mostly in TV and music videos for smaller bands. His feature film debut, Submarine, which debuted at the Toronto Film Festival last fall, where it was picked up by The Weinstein Company, is produced by Ben Stiller. The film has been very-well received by press and non-press, and it’s been buzzed about quite a bit since then.

What’s it about? The story is set in Wales, in 1987, and involves a character by the name of Oliver, described as the anti-hero teen, played by Noah Craig Roberts. The film centers of Oliver’s burgeoning romance with a pyromaniac (Yasmin Paige), and his attempts to stop his mother (Sally Hawkins) from cheating on his father, with a repulsive, “new age” motivational speaker (played by Paddy Considine).

The film is based on the novel of the same name by Joe Dunthorne.

It’ll be released stateside on June 3rd, so the rest of us will get to see the man’s work; and in anticipation of that, The Weinstein Company has released a new trailer for its USA release, which you can watch below:

S&P throws down the gauntlet! Prepare for the consequences!

Mike Larson | Friday, April 22, 2011 at 7:30 am

Mike LarsonAlmost one year ago, Weiss Ratings challenged the major credit ratings agencies. The gist of the message? Stop dillydallying around and downgrade the long-term sovereign debt rating of the United States in order to help protect investors and prod Washington to fix its finances … before it’s too late.

In the release, Weiss Ratings Chairman Martin D. Weiss wrote:

“The U.S. government’s triple-A rating is an anachronism. Given the rapid deterioration in our nation’s finances and the spreading threat to sovereign debt overseas, a downgrade is long overdue.

“By reaffirming the government’s triple-A rating, the three leading rating agencies help entice savers and investors to pour trillions more into a potential debt trap, or, at best, to be severely underpaid for the actual risks they are taking. The rating agencies give policymakers a green light to perpetuate their fiscal follies, further degrading our government’s ability to meet future obligations. And, they help create a false sense of security overall. Recognizing and confronting our nation’s financial troubles with honesty is the necessary first step toward solving them.”

Now, it appears the agencies are finally starting to get the message! In a landmark cannon-shot fired across Washington’s bow, Standard & Poor’s warned that the U.S.’s AAA credit rating is at risk.

If I’m right, this could be the start of a major upheaval in the fixed income, currency, and stock markets. That turmoil will likely have serious consequences for your portfolio, so there’s no time to waste. You have to start preparing now!

Dear Sir/Madam,

The HK Movie Industry Ltd has initiated a capacity development strategy for the operators of the movie industry in Uganda. The country had lagged behind in this sub sector as compared to other countries with the same sector but with the quality HK Movie Industry come with, and the extensive advertisements we’ve seen it shoot to the top.

There is no doubt, the high demand for local movies within the Ugandan population that ranges between 29-35 million people is all attributed to the extra efforts and good public perception that HK movies area of quality.

The country’s biggest population percentage enjoys luxurious thing and we have evidenced this with the best performance of telecommunication network companies in this country, first we had CELTEL in 1990’s followed by MTN which to date is the leading tax payer, and a non governmental organization, the others also followed, today in total we have more than 6 network companies.

After a sharp increase on the local film watchers curve in Uganda from 10% in 2000 to 25% in 2010, actually this indicates a higher demand for the machine so as to revert the producers’ income that goes in hands of pirates. We are ready to send to you the best descriptions of the machines so as to import the for us or financial loan to make it ourselves

The reproduction machines will be every producer’s savior from the pirates as all rights of doing this work has been granted to H.K movie industry and the so many copies that any producer will desire shall be only done by H.K because of the machine.

This machines is estimated to be having a shortest pay back period implying that the machine has got a high profit margin. For more information about this proposal fell free to contact Kagolo Husain chief executive officer of H.K Movie Industry Ltd on the addresses put at the bottom of this latter see the proposal attached on.

Managed to catch this last week. (it had a limited cinema release in the UK) Much like Ayoade it is subtly funny with fantastic performances all round.

Apparently if you’re into Nouvelle Vague cinema there’s extra chunks for you but I was watching old school kung fu and reading comics that day.

And.. Can anyone say Disqus?
