This survey was presented at the film industry’s annual convention in Las Vegas – once called ShoWest and now under NATO management and with a new name – CinemaCon. It’s priceless. It seems to have been geared to a more mainstream audience trying to learn about who this mysterious “arthouse/indie” customer might be and how to reach out to them and it might be skewed by the sample size and definition – it certainly seems to be different from the impressions of the audiences defined in January by The Arthouse Convergence Conference. More on that later, perhaps…we’ll see how the trades cover this story, if they do.
It is even more important in light of Film Independent’s Dawn Hendler going to AMPAS that NATO is seriously studying indies. Just wait, I have a premonition that more big news will be breaking soon. Indies RULE!! I wonder if this is somehow related to the current world revolutions in the Mid East? :)
