New York beauty photographer and commercial director James Houston‘s expose about sex attitudes, Let’s Talk About Sex, launches with a national broadcast on April 9 on cable network The Learning Channel, with New Video’s digital/DVD release set for April 12. The documentary aims to raise awareness about how to protect teens against unplanned pregnancy and STDs. See trailer here and below.
TLC will push a national outreach and education campaign in April around the premiere of Let’s Talk About Sex, which looks at how American attitudes towards adolescent sexuality impact teenagers. “Youth in the United States are facing a health crisis of high rates of pregnancy and STD’s nationwide,” says Houston. “We are failing our children by not having healthy, productive conversations with them about sex. It is my hope that Let’s Talk About Sex will be both the catalyst and the tool we need to start those conversations in family rooms and classrooms across the country.”
Produced in collaboration with Advocates for Youth, a leading non-profit organization focused on issues relating to adolescent reproductive health, the film interviews parents and kids, and compiles statistics, animation and archival material to create an urgent picture of today’s American teens.
Produced by Neal Weisman (The Politician’s Wife, Seeing Red, My Kingdom), the film was shot by Claudia Raschke-Robinson, edited by Richard Hankin and exec produced by Jim Clark.
Australian-born Houston has directed commercials for Clinique and HUGO BOSS, and has photographed the likes of Hugh Jackman, Jessica Alba, Kirsten Dunst, and Cate Blanchett for such clients as Loreal Paris, Donna Karan, Hugo Boss and GAP. He has published four books of photographs; proceeds from the most recent, Move (PowerHouse Books), raised close to $500,000 to benefit HIV/AIDS charities.
