UPDATE: Christopher Meloni is joining the cast of Man of Steel as a general, but further details are hush-hush. “I can’t tell you,” he tells Vulture, “or I’d have to kill you.” The Law & Order: SVU star will begin a five month shoot the end of August.
EARLIER: Julia Ormond is in talks to play Lara Lor-Van and Russell Crowe has been offered the role of Jor-El, Superman’s Kryptonian mother and father.
German actress Antje Traue joins Superman: Man of Steel‘s cast as a second villain to fight with Henry Cavill‘s Superman. She will play Faora (though it is unclear which one, as there are several in Superman’s world), while Michael Shannon is playing General Zod, Amy Adams is Lois Lane and Kevin Costner and Diane Lane are Superman/Clark Kent’s Earth parents, Jonathan and Martha Kent. Variety says, “it’s more likely that Traue will be playing the version of Faora that debuted in Action Comics #779 as a Pokolistanian aide of General Zod. That character was an orphan metahuman with the ability to disrupt molecular bonds, which allowed her to create a mutagenic virus that served as the linchpin of Zod’s plan.”
