It may seem early for Sony to be releasing two teaser trailers of David Fincher’s American version of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, starring Rooney Mara and Daniel Craig. The red band version launched overseas, starting in Sweden (where the film is set and was filmed) and France, and then widens to other countries, including the U.S. this weekend. The green band version goes out wide in theaters and online on Thursday, June 2. One trailer was attached to one exhibitor‘s print of The Hangover Part II.
Given the high pricetag (just south of $100 million) of the R-rated thriller to be released jointly by Sony and MGM on December 21, 2011–even one based on the global bestseller The Millennium Trilogy–you can expect a major global marketing push.
One IMDb member claims to have seen the the red band trailer:
Watched the new teaser trailer tonight. I have to say I was shocked it was on the hard drive for one reason. It was a red band trailer, it can not be shown in theatres.
So a few thoughts on this, anyone that is worried about it not following the Orginal/book can put that worry to bed. This looks to be as graphic if not more then the orginal. The trailer consists of a bunch of quick cuts of scenes from the movie. Alot of things from the Orginal that we only see in still photos and hear characters talk about are actually filmed and shown. Any worry about Rooney Mara not looking the part don’t need to worry. There is a shot in the trailer of her topless pulling on a shirt much like Noomi Rapace does in the others. Mara looks the part for sure. Skinny as Rapace, only thing it looks like they may have done is toned down the punk look some. But not alot.
Not sure what else to say other then the trailer was very intense, it was set to Led Zeppelins immigrant song, my friend who was watching it with me actually said it was creepy. I have to agree with him. I can’t wait for this to be released now. Sad that they didn’t release a trailer that would be shown in the theatres this weekend though.
Meanwhile, according to Dragon Tattoo star Christopher Plummer, Rooney Mara is “frightening” as Lisbeth Salander, reports Marc Malkin:
“It’s so loyal to the book that we didn’t feel we were cheating or diverting from it at all,” says 81-year-old acting legend Christopher Plummer, who plays retired businessman Henrik Vanger in the movie. “David is a marvelous director, and I think he truly has caught the atmosphere of the book.”
Plummer, best known for playing Captain von Trapp in The Sound of Music, has equal praise for Rooney Mara, who stars as Lisbeth Salander. “It’s extraordinary,” he said of the actress’ unrecognizable physical transformation for the role. “And because she looks so young, it’s very frightening. The innocence makes it even more terrifying. She is going to be the most wonderful Tattoo Girl.”
