Tyler Perry Exec Jumps Ship To Start Own Production Company

Tyler Perry Exec Jumps Ship To Start Own Production Company

Roger Bobb annouced today that he is offically leaving his top level position as Executive Vice President at Tyler Perry Studios tomorrow, to start his own film production company called Bobcat Films.

As Bobb said today in a written statement: “I’m elated to announce that beginning Tuesday, May 31st, I will begin a new chapter as President of Bobbcat Films, my new film and television production company. I look forward to continuing to work with all of you soon. Thank You and God Bless.

Bobb has been with Perry since his first movie – Diary of a Mad Black Woman – and went on to be the Supervising Producer on all the episodes of The House of Payne and Executive Producer for all the episodes of Meet The Browms.

No word yet as to what projects that are currently in development at Bobcat; but here’s a question – will he copy TP’s “modus operandi” or will he venture into different areas, i.e. action, horror, or drama?

I know it’s real easy here to make some crack about men in drag… but I’ll behave this time.

Where are you guys located? I have visited Tyler's location before, but I never heard of yours. What is your street address? By the way, is there a submission policy established yet? How would an independent writer send a copy of his/her latest book? Thanks. please let me know.

I’m glad that another African American male had the knowledge and potential to learn from someone else, and moved on to be part of the film industry world, however I hope and pray that being in the film industry that you give the ones who are working very hard and working toward the goals and dreams just you do. I pray that you give actors and actress the same opportunity that you had, not working with regular stars who have made it. We get so caught up on the business that we forget that there actors an actresses who can work just as hard in the film industry to make your company be a success. Once again Mr. Bobb congrats on you endeavor.

I think he will do great things, let’s give him a chance and not be so quick to be judge.

On another note, I hope he reads this comment because “Marvelous J” certainly can help him with his music.

Roger, I believe that you are stepping out on faith, and God has to honor that. Please view video trailer. The story line of Dr. Michael Wilson’s true inspirational book is awesome, and I think that Tyler Perry is a brilliant person. I am sure that great minds think alike.

I just hopes he actually pays his employees their worth unlike his former boss. And if a student interns year after year honor them with a job. College graduates cannot work for free and live

This young man has sat under one of the best. His season is up with Tyler Productions! Let’s be happy for him and wish him much success. There’s enough of God’s blessings to go around!Q

I only hope that Roger Bobb will be more hands on to the community than Tyler Perry is. I know a young lady who only wanted to do either an internship or shadow him, because this arena is her PASSION.

Good luck, RB
Please keep your sight focus and clear.

It is what it is!

The more the merrier. There’s plenty of room out there for good filmmakers. Anxious to see what Roger puts out! Best to BOTH men.

Business-wise he learned from the best! Can’t wait to see what his first project will be.

“Coon” is such a hateful word. Be mindful of the words you speak. I understand you want more intriguing work, but damn…

…you sound like one of his male, dark-skinned characters. I kid. I kid.

Congrats to Bobb! More opportunities for filmmakers of color (we hope)!

Speaking of opportunities for indie filmmakers, has anyone ever heard of There’s not much press on it, and I’m not sure if S&A has posted on it yet, but it seems pretty interesting.
Check it out!

I can’t wait to see what @Lynn is doing with her gift. I am tired of these broke asses talking shit about filmmakers. What are you doing with your life? All this talking, but not walking! Typical Niggerish Behavior!

Mr. Bubbles

Nothing like having your own! Congrats on the business decision.

Roger actually had a life before Tyler Perry. He produced an indie flick called “Artworks.” It was a decent indie film starring Virginia Madsen.

Agree with Lynn. Please, more intriguing and intelligent stories that entertain as well. If you make it the people will come.

@ Sandra

“He learned from the best” Lol.

I never considered Tyler Perry the “best”. I mean he has accomplished a lot for a starving African-American playwright/filmmaker and he has made a lot of dough creating cheesy plots and buffoonery content.

If this guy is willing to create films on his own let’s hope it is not identical to T.P’s work on TBS or his Madea films. We don’t need anymore of that.

Y’all can call me a hater but i don’t want see anything resembling Tyler Perry’s work.

I’m more than curious to see what will come out of his production company. It would be great to see him diversify his storytelling and move in a new direction –away from what his former boss is doing. I think TP has cornered the market on that already.

and now for something completely different.

This reminds me of “Gremlins”… except with coons multiplying.
