Watch: Chilling, Atmospheric U.K. Trailer For 'Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark'

Finally, emerging out of the Miramax fiasco and heading to cinemas thanks to FilmDistrict, the Guillermo del Toro-produced horror flick “Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark” is on the way and you know what? It actually looks like it’s going to pack some good scares in a film that doesn’t have anyone being tortured or was made for $1 million dollars and shot with a handheld camera.

Empire has dropped a new U.K. trailer for the film which shows a lot more than the teaser that has been floating around for a while now. Directed by Troy Nixey and starring Guy Pearce, Katie Holmes and Bailee Madison, the film—a remake of 1973 TV movie—centers on a family who move into a derelict house, only to experience the unveiling of some terrifying creatures. We really dig the overall moodiness and atmosphere we see here and aside from the closing jump scare, this appears to be one that will slowly raise your goosebumps before frightening the bejesus out of you. All three actors look to be in top form too; we’ve been a fan of Madison since her turn in “Brothers” and the young thesp looks strong again here, and Pearce as usual looks great.

“Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark” opens on August 12th. Check out the trailer below.

Now this looks bland. Boring and tired idea, done to death (i think this could be a bad pun).
Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark? There’s scarier things to be frighten of, such as Katie Holmes is your lame mother in this movie.

Plus when all those voices kept chanting (or saying something inaudible during the last third of the trailer), did anyone else think of the mock trailer by Edgar Wright, “Don’t”?

As someone who loved Drag me to Hell, this seems in the same vein but I have to ask, what the hell is coming out of or going into Katie Holmes’ nose towards the end there? Am I seeing things? It certainly looks like something is stuck in her nostril. Any ideas?

wow all horrormonsterghosts in the haunted mansion clichés packed into one movie. do not want.

How does the trailer for 50/50 get called bland by you peeps and this gets positive feedback?

“something terrible happened in that basement!”
