Watch: 'The Descendants' Trailer Promises Another Finely Tuned Dramedy From Alexander Payne

If you need the complete history lesson you can read it right here, but it’s been seven long years since Alexander Payne‘s last feature film, the smash hit “Sideways,” but it looks like he hasn’t lost one iota of his fine touch for character.

The trailer has landed for his long awaited next feature “The Descendants” and quite simply — it looks great. Co-written by Nat Faxon and Jim Rash, the film follows the story of a wealthy Hawaiian man named Matt King (George Clooney), who takes his daughters (Shailene Woodley and Amara Miller) on a road trip to find the man his wife has been having an affair with after a boating accident leaves her critically injured. Beau Bridges, Matthew Lillard, Judy Greer, a cold-cocking Robert Forster, Mary Birdsong and Nick Krause co-star in what looks to be another perfectly pitched character piece. Clooney in particular looks very strong, looking like he’s nailed another everyman role a with funny, slightly sour turn.

Oscar season will come calling for “The Descendants” when it opens on December 6th. Check out the trailer below via ComingSoon or in HD at Apple.

This looks amazing. I can’t wait for Oscar season, where it’ll get several nominations and lose to whatever the Weinstein Company decides to release.

@Abner um what? no it’s not.

Payne’s perception of “normal” people is offensive.

@Buntyhoven

I think it’s the really lame background music. I still wanna see this, but whoever cut the trailer made it look kinda lame… then again, comedy/dramas are a hard sell in trailer form.

Seven years is too long. Come back to us, Alexander. Bring the Payne.

Looks as thrilling as the CDs they display by the cash registers at Starbucks.
