Zoe Saldana/Luc Besson Already Talking Sequel To “Colombiana”

Zoe Saldana/Luc Besson Already Talking Sequel To "Colombiana"

The film isn’t even in theaters yet (won’t be until the end of August), but, apparently, producer Luc Besson and director Olivier Megaton, and star Zoe Saldana are already talking a sequel to their upcoming revenge thriller, Colombiana.

Empire caught up with Saldana are the Cannes Film Festival, which ended its 2011 run yesterday, and asked her about sequels to Avatar, Star Trek and Colombiana, and, about the latter, the actress said that Besson and Megaton are already salivating at the thought, and asked her, during a recent dinner at Cannes, whether she would do a sequel if they are able to – likely meaning, if the film does well at the box office.

Of course, she said she would. Now, obviously, it doesn’t mean it’ll actually happen, even if the film is a box office success. But, it’s clear that they are already considering the idea.

Will the film do well? Who knows? As we discussed on the last podcast, the film doesn’t necessarily have to do blockbuster numbers here in the USA; as with past Besson films, international box office weighs heavily. Take, for example, The 5th Element which made about $63 million stateside, but over $200 million internationally.

Watch the interview below, which doesn’t actually start until about the 1:50 mark.

I look forward to this film. Zoe is a good actress!!

As an actress I find her so unremarkable.

james Madison

‘m with Cynthia.

This is definitely on my must see list with Restless City, Viva Riva and 13 Assassins.

Sequel…..YES SIREE BOB! How about just create more films along these lines so we can see more black women in action films!?!?!

I hope there is a sequel, the trailer was badass and Zoe is a great actress. I can’t wait for this movie to come out and I’m sure I’m not the only one.

I personally think black women should do more ass-kicking action films, instead of playing blackbestfriend in romantic comedies (or being the lead in black movies no one watches).

Loved Angie B’s turn in Strange Days

I agree with you Bridget. Besides, I like watching women kick arse!!!

If it does really well then why not? I hope she can do better than these action films.

Boooooo nobody wants to see a sequel. Even if that does happen. T

he film looks incredibly boring and it is missing something. These female assassin movies never have a strong story.
