Bjork Is Back and as Gloriously Strange as Ever

Bjork Is Back and as Gloriously Strange as Ever

Our first official dose of what will be Bjork’s more-than-just-an-album “Biophilia” has hit the interweb. According to a press release, “Biophilia” consists of ridiculously ambitious mix of “a studio album, apps, a new website, custom-made musical instruments, live shows and educational workshops.” It will be released as an “app album”– a bundle of 10 iPad apps, with one for each song on the album. Each app will feature “an interactive game based on the song’s scientific and musical subject matter, a musical animation of the song, an animated score, lyrics, and an academic essay.” If anyone can pull all that off, it’s Bjork. But for now our only true sign of what’s to come is simply the song “Crystalline” itself, a bizarrely catchy and perfectly Bjorkish ode to god knows what:

Check out these lyrics:

Underneath our feet
Crystals grow like plants
Listen how they grow
I’m blinded by the lights
Listen how they grow
In the core of the Earth
Listen how they glow

Crystalline
Internal nebula
Crystalline
Rocks growing slow but
Crystalline
I conquer claustrophobia
Crystalline
And demand the lights

We mimic the openness
Of the ones we love
Daft till our generosity
Equalizes the flow
With our hearts
We kiss our quartz
To reach love

Crystalline
Internal nebula
Crystalline
Rocks growing slow but
Crystalline
I conquer claustrophobia
Crystalline
And demand the lights

Octagon, polygon
Pipes up an organ
Sonic branches
Murmuring drone
Crystalizing galaxies
Spread out like my fingers

Crystalline
Internal nebula
Crystalline
Rocks growing slow but
Crystalline
I conquer claustrophobia
Crystalline
And demand the lights

It’s the sparkle you become
When you conquer anxiety
Sparkle you become
Conquer anxiety
Sparkle you become
When you conquer anxiety
It’s the sparkle you become
When you conquer anxiety
