First Poster For Pixar’s ‘Brave’ Arrives

First Poster For Pixar's 'Brave' Arrives

For those bemoaning Pixar‘s unfortunate swing into sequel-dom with last year’s “Toy Story 3,” this year’s “Cars 2” and the upcoming “Monsters University,” the good news is they’ve got some original content in the pipeline. The studio just set a 2013 date for a mysterious new project, but before that, we’ll get “Brave.”

Starring Kelly Macdonald, Billy Connolly, Emma Thompson, Julie Walters and Kevin McKidd, the story, set in the Scottish highlands in years gone by, focusing on Princess Merida, the daughter of the rulers of the kingdom, who one day “defies a sacred custom of the land, and inadvertantly brings turmoil to the kingdom.” In order to fix things, she goes to a Wise Woman, and is granted a wish; one that is described as ‘ill-fated.’ This poster is certainly a bit less cheery than one sheets from Pixar in the past, but that was intentional. “What we want to get across [with the teaser] is that this story has some darker elements,” director Mark Andrews told EW who have unveiled the poster. “Not to frighten off our Pixar fans — we’ll still have all the comedy and the great characters. But we get a little bit more intense here.”

Well, it’s certainly intriguing and something fresh for eyes after the non-stop blinding promo for “Cars 2.” “Brave” opens on June 22, 2012. Full poster below.

Toy Story 3 needed to be made. Cars 2, maybe not, but my nephew is SUPER excited. Monsters University? No, just no.

Brave looks amazing. I saw some other rough artwork on Pixar’s twitter feed. I like the setting and the darker themes.

I get the hate for Cars 2, I am not that excited for it myself. But this is because, as we all know, the first one was mediocre.

But why the early hate for Monsters University? Remember how awesome the first one was? Kind of reminds me of Toy Story. First was awesome, and the second was arguably better….
