"Jumping The Broom" Opens In The UK This Weekend!

And who says black films don’t travel… *wink*

Jumping The Broom will open in theaters in the UK this Friday, June 10th, so all our wonderful readers across the pond will be able to see the film for themselves, after likely feeling somewhat left out of all the discussion we’ve had about the film on this site, and across the black blogosphere.

And after you do see it, I’d love to read your reactions to the film, so don’t be shy. Head on back here and give us the goods.

The film has made over $36 million to date, after 5 weeks in theaters. Not bad at all, given its relatively tiny budget. Depending on what was spent on marketing, I think it’s safe to say that the film is a commercial success. And it’s not even on DVD/VOD/Blu-ray yet.

And if you missed it, I had a 45-minute chat with Tracey Edmonds of Our Stories Films Inc, the production house behind the film, about 2 weeks ago. If you missed that conversation, listen to it below:

I am afraid the UK release was pulled a few months ago. I am not sure what the reasons were but I was very disappointed as were many of my friends. It seems like we still have a long way to go in order to get films representing different stories on the big screen.

I was really looking forward to this film, another black film put on the backburner for crap smh.

I did make some enquiries a few weeks ago because it was announced on several USA sites that it was being released on 10 June 2011. Unfortunately, speaking with a film publicist who contacted Sony – they decided within a week of it’s release to not release here in the UK – well not in June anyway.

Sadly it doesn’t.
And I blame America. Yes because sadly not enough of you went to see the film to justify a UK release.
The official line from Sony is that due to an extremely crowded and competitive month they’ve decided to reschedule its release at this time.
Which in laymans language means it’ll get a one week release in November followed by swift DVD release.
If your looking for Afrocentric fare in the UK The MIrror Boy is released across the UK this coming Friday.
