New Look At Gary Oldman In 'Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy'

Will this be the year the Academy finally gives Gary Oldman his due? It seems that those anticipating Tomas Alfredson‘s “Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy” think that this could be the film that finally sees the actor holding the Oscar gold. And even if it isn’t, with a fantastic cast in place and some great source material to work with, this promises to be one of the highlights of the fall movie season.

To tide us over until a trailer drops Baz Bamigboye reveals a fresh look Oldman in the film. Joined by Tom Hardy, Colin Firth, Benedict Cumberbatch, Ciaran Hinds, Mark Strong, Svetlana Khodchenko, Toby Jones, John Hurt, Stephen Graham and Kathy Burke, the film is an adaptation of John Le Carre‘s classic spy thriller that follows a British Intelligence operative, George Smiley (Oldman), whose task is to delve into the world of Cold War espionage and root out a Soviet mole in the Circus, the highest echelon in the British Intelligence Services.

Whether Oldman’s performance will spin Oscar gold remains to be seen, but he’ll be bouncing off some of the best Brit thesps working today in a film that has everything in place to be nothing short of fantastic. Focus Features will usher the film into theaters on November 18th but we expect it’ll turn up at TIFF before that.

I agree – so great to see Oldman in a lead role. He should be given more leads and he should have been given important leads in the last 10 years. He has been doing a lot of fantasy and it is nice to see him back to a more realistic movie. I would like to see him directing more too actually.

Yeah, it’ll be Focus Features. My bad.

Focus Features is owned by Universal. It’s their art house films division.

I thought it was Focus Feature not Universal.

I’ve heard enough buzz….the trailer already!

It’s George, NOT Guy smiley.

Albert Brooks has the supporting actor gold locked up, Oldman can try for lead tho if he wants.

One of my most anticipated films for the year. Great to see Oldman in a lead role.
